Tickets on sale now for AHS and THS winter theatre productions

Forest Hills high school theatre students will awe audiences this winter with two powerhouse productions. 

Anderson Theatre will present The Crucible by master playwright Arthur Miller. Miller will lead audiences through a web of deceit, bigotry, and betrayal in this partially fictionalized story of the Salem witch trials in the Massachusetts Bay Colony during the winter of 1692. The story focuses upon John Proctor, his wife, Elizabeth, and Abigail Williams, the young servant-girl who maliciously embroils an entire town in a crucible of lies, accusations, and terror.

Winner of the 1953 Tony Award for Best Play, The Crucible offers an unflinching view of what can happen when justice and truth fall victim to the worst impulses of humanity, and how a society struggles to retain its morality in the face of manipulation, fear, and self-interest. It may be the historical town of Salem that enters this crucible, but modern audiences will emerge changed by the passion and pressure of this dramatic parable for our times.  

Audiences can enjoy The Crucible will be at Anderson High School on February 14 - 15 at 7 p.m. and February 16 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available here.

Also in February, Turpin Theatre will present Miss Holmes. In Miss Holmes, Miss Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Dorothy Watson work together to uncover the secrets surrounding a corrupt police inspector whose wives have a habit of turning up dead. But, Holmes and Watson face far greater challenges than bringing the cunning criminal to justice. Miss Holmes possesses one of the greatest deductive minds of her generation, but she chafes at the restraints imposed upon her by society and family. Dr. Watson struggles to make a difference at the only hospital in London that will hire female doctors. In a time and place where gender roles are rigidly defined, these unconventional women dare to challenge societal norms by providing an unusual, but necessary, service. 

Inspired by the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, this show shines a new light on favorite characters from the canon, re-examining the Victorian world of Holmes and Watson by exploring the added obstacles faced by these two iconic characters if they were women.

Miss Holmes will be at Turpin High School on February 7 - 8 at 7 p.m. and February 9 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available now.
