Summit Elementary and Sherwood Elementary have joined an exclusive list for overachieving schools in the state of Ohio. The Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators awarded the schools with a Hall of Fame recognition this spring for going "above and beyond meeting the needs of the students." Only five schools in the entire state were recognized this year, two of which were in the Forest Hills School District.

“This year we limited it to just the top five schools,” OAESA associate executive director Mark Jones explained at the Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, April 20. “Now this is really strange to have two of the top five schools from one district. But I’ve got to tell you, from sitting here listening, it doesn’t surprise me a bit. This is a district that has a culture of overachievers, of high performers and we commend you for that.”

The Hall of Fame School Award recognizes schools that engage faculty, students and the community to provide a quality school experience. The school staff submitted an extensive application documenting the effectiveness of their educational program in several areas. Hall of Fame Schools were selected by committees of OAESA members.

“It’s quite the honor. I’ve been here for 16 years and I feel like there’s a lot of incredible things happening for kids and our community,” said Dan Hamilton, principal of Sherwood Elementary. “It’s just awesome to have the opportunity to be recognized outside the school district for the really good things that are happening at Sherwood.”

“At Summit, our vision for students is that they feel safe, cared for and engaged in learning,” Michele Sulfsted, principal of Summit Elementary School, said. “We wanted to thank the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators for voting for us to be a Hall of Fame school for the year 2022.”

All six elementary schools in the Forest Hills School District  have now received this significant honor. Summit and Sherwood will be recognized at an OAESA conference in June and each principal will receive a monetary prize to spend on their buildings.
