SPARK Night Inspires Young Students to Explore STEM
FHSD will be hosting SPARK Night this year on Thursday, November 9 from 6:30-8 p.m. at Turpin High School. The event involves high school students organizing STEM projects and experiments to spark elementary students’ interest in science, technology, engineering and math. The district hopes it also sparks interest in student participation in the annual Science Fair and Innovation Expo held in January. This is a wonderful opportunity for younger students to interact with science in creative and exciting ways.
Some experiments of past SPARK Nights include making lemon volcanoes, creating DIY lava lamps and mixing together invisible ink using water, baking soda and grape juice. Sponsored by the Forest Hills Foundation for Education, the event is sure to be a lively, hands-on night.
All elementary students and their families are welcome to join. The experiments are geared toward younger students to get them excited about STEM, but parents and guardians can certainly have a good time with these engaging activities as well.
