Raising Awareness for Services, Resources Available to Students Experiencing Homelessness
School counselors and district staff at FHSD are committed to ensuring equitable access to education for all students living in Forest Hills. Students and families face unique challenges that can affect the educational outcome and academic success of students. To ensure that each student has fair access to a quality education, FHSD has a number of resources and support services for students and their families who may experience homelessness. These resources can be found on the Homelessness Resources webpage on the FHSD website, which has recently been updated to reflect the current supports available to help mitigate the challenges of homelessness or living in foster care.
As a reminder, each FHSD school has at least one counselor to support students and their academic and emotional needs. They provide a range of services to promote academic progress and help create a culture of life-readiness. Counselors can connect with students and assist them with challenges, including homelessness and housing instability, by referring them to the available resources.
Some families in the community may qualify for access to homelessness services but may not be aware it might apply to them. Please refer to the newly updated Homelessness Resources webpage to utilize the available support.
For further resources concerning challenges that affect student health and wellness, such as mental health and more, the Forest Hills School District Resource List can connect families to community support services.
