November blog: We are grateful

Nov 18, 2019

While it feels as though fall has skipped us and winter arrived a bit too early for my taste, I can assure you that it is still November! And in this month, which is generally associated with gratitude, I want to reflect on all that we have to be grateful for in Forest Hills School District.

Over the summer, we asked you to continue to support staff and students through the passage of a 4.7-mill operating levy. This operating levy is critical to maintain the district’s excellent programs and services, and on November 5 nearly 58% of Forest Hills voters approved this request.

I am overwhelmed with gratitude.

On behalf of the Board of Education, staff and myself - thank you. Thank you for believing in the remarkable work that takes place in our schools each day. Thank you for protecting the high-quality education, extracurriculars and experiences of more than 7,200 students. Thank you to the countless community members who listened, asked questions and provided us feedback. Thank you to the dozens of volunteers who spent their personal time supporting the district and made sure that our community knew the facts.

Thank you for investing in the future.

This operating levy comes with our renewed commitment to continue to provide a great education at an efficient cost to our taxpayers. We respect our taxpayers and do not take the term “fiscal responsibility” lightly. The district is currently reviewing several opportunities for new fiscal efficiencies in an attempt to continue to stretch every taxpayer dollar. Alana Cropper, district treasurer, and I look forward to sharing additional financial information in the coming weeks.

Each and every person in our community contributes to the success of Forest Hills students, whether directly or indirectly. Without you, the district would not be what it is today. Thank you for helping empower our students to excel today, and in the future.

Respectfully,

Scot
