Forest Hills School District is thrilled to share that Maddux Elementary Principal Joy O’Brien has been named President-Elect of the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators (OAESA). All members of OAESA had the opportunity to vote in December for one of two candidates who will help represent the association. As part of the executive board, O’Brien will have the opportunity to advocate for Ohio schools–students, staff and administrators–at the state and national levels.

“I am humbled, honored and excited to serve my colleagues across the state as the President-Elect of OAESA,” said O’Brien. “I continuously learn and grow as a part of this organization. I look forward to listening and growing alongside Ohio principals and leaders in order to best represent and support our students across the state.”

O’Brien will represent on the OAESA executive board for three years, serving as President-Elect during the 2025-2026 school year, President for the 2026-2027 school year and then Past-President for the 2027-2028 school year. Part of her duties also include attending the National Association for Elementary School Principals (NAESP) conferences and the National Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C.

The Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators connects and supports administrators of Pre-K-8 schools throughout the course of their careers. In striving for all elementary schools to have effective, informed and caring leadership, OAESA connects, develops and advocates for elementary school administrators so that they and their schools can be successful.

Before being named President-Elect, O’Brien has served on multiple service teams within OAESA and on the OAESA Board as the Assistant Principal Representative. She is the current Zone 2 Director. In her candidate’s statement, O’Brien shared, “OAESA is not just a membership, but a family–a place where we celebrate our successes, share our challenges and inspire each other. As President-Elect, I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work.”
