FHSD announces inclement weather plans
The first day of winter is approaching and with it comes the possibility of a school closing or delay due to natural elements, hazardous road conditions or power outages.
“School closings and delays are based on concern for the safety of students, parents and employees,” explained Scot T. Prebles, superintendent. “Now is a good time for parents to begin thinking about alternate plans for children should school be delayed in opening, early in dismissing or closed due to winter weather that can impact road conditions and safety.”
Should there be a need to close schools, Forest Hills latch-key programs will not operate and all extracurricular activities will be cancelled, unless otherwise communicated.
If there is a need to delay the start of school to allow time for streets and parking lots to be cleared of snow, ice or debris, school buses and schools will operate on a one- or two-hour delay (see attached chart for detailed information).
“Forest Hills works to ensure students, staff and parents are safe when the temperature drops and the roadways become hazardous,” explained Prebles. “To help assess road and weather conditions, the FHSD employees personally drive district roads, confer with road crews in Anderson Township and consider local meteorology reports. We know students are better served academically when in school, but safety is our top priority.”
When schools are delayed or closed, parents of FHSD students will receive a phone call on the phone number you have provided to us. If your phone number has recently changed, please notify your child’s school. Closings and delays will also be communicated on television, radio, the district website, the district Facebook page and the district Twitter feed (”@fhschools)”
