Forest Hills-Great Oaks students qualify for national competition

Nineteen Forest Hills students in the Great Oaks Teaching Professions Academy qualified for the Educators Rising national conference in Washington DC after placing in the top five in their events in Ohio competition. 

From Anderson High School:

State champions in their event were Brooke Kosman (Lesson Plan /Career Technical Education), DC Ratliff (K-3 Children's Literature), Cynthia Surges (Impromptu Lesson), and the team of Katy Hillman, Katie McCullough, Savannah Shannon, Chloe Caldwell (Ethical Dilemma)

Tommy Schultz (Public Speaking) and Skylar Corder (Educators Rising Moment Speech) finished in second place in their events.

In third place were Jadyn Riggs (Creative Lecture/TED Talk) and Kenzie Schweickart (Exploring Support Services Careers).

Fourth place finishers from Anderson were Amanda Ritter (Job Application), Mattie Bailey (Lesson Plan/STEM), Jack Armstrong (Impromptu Speaking), Abe Myres (Exploring Administration Careers) and Ella France (Lesson Plan- Arts).

Erin Geis (Exploring Non-Core Subject Teaching) took fifth place.

Students who didn’t qualify for national competition but who finished in the top ten include the team of Alex Walsh, Stella Wulker, and Peyton Murray (Researching Learning Challenges); Alaina Sullivan and Karley Steinher (Pre-K Children’s Literature); and Nathaniel Shields (Lesson Plan/Humanities).

National qualifiers from Turpin High School include:

State champion NayNay Smith (Exploring Careers - Administration).

Paige Gardner (Lesson Plan/STEM), second place.

Alison O’Connor (Creative Lecture TED Talk), fifth place.

Nicole Jump (Exploring Careers Support Services), fifth place.

Turpin students who didn’t qualify for national competition but who finished in the top ten include Katy Beth O’Dell (Public Speaking); Fern Barajas, Paige Gardner, Nicole Jump, Katy Beth O’Dell (Ethical Dilemma); Grace Owens (Exploring Non-Core Careers); Allie Fermann (Lesson Plan/Humanities); Sydney Donohoo, Rachel Goldsmith, Ellen Scherer (Inside Our Schools); Kendall Linn (Job Interview); Izzy Stutzman (Impromptu Speaking); and Hailey Marcum (Impromptu Lesson Plan).

Both the Anderson and Turpin chapters also received the Honors Chapter Distinction for accumulative GPA and community service efforts.  

The Forest Hills students also dominated the chapter display competition, with the Anderson chapter taking first place and Turpin taking second.

The Teaching Professions Academy is a satellite program of Great Oaks Career Campuses at Anderson and Turpin High Schools.
