Forest Hills School District welcomes a new face to its nine schools. Jeremy Dwyer begins his first year as a school resource officer (SRO), joining SRO Ryan Wolf as the designated law enforcement support for the entire district.

SRO Dwyer is a longtime resident of Anderson Township, having attended Maddux Elementary School and Anderson High School. One of his children graduated from Turpin and he currently has two other children attending schools within the district. He is thrilled to help protect the community he has been a part of for many years.

“I am excited to be a part of this SRO team and have the opportunity to serve the community I love,” said SRO Dwyer. “It is a pleasure to protect the school district that I attended and the district my family calls home.”

The role of SROs is to provide immediate support and assistance to school staff and students if there is an urgent need. They work directly with district administrators on emergency response plans and provide their professional law enforcement expertise to help preserve a safe learning environment. Additionally, officers answer questions, address concerns and provide the proper resources to keep school campuses secure.

“Safety is paramount when it comes to schools,” said SRO Wolf. “We are so happy to welcome Jeremy Dwyer as an SRO to provide additional support to the district’s students and staff.”

Anderson Township contracts its police services from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, including SROs. This helps the district provide the best trained, most knowledgeable support to all its campuses.

FHSD is covering the cost of this new School Resource Officer, with Anderson Township agreeing to fund the vehicle, maintenance and other equipment costs.

Anderson Township has historically funded this specialized officer since it launched the resource officer pilot program 22 years ago. Funding covers the cost of the officer plus vehicle, equipment and transportation expenses. Anderson Township contracts for its police services through the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, including these specialized positions.

“We are delighted to welcome a second school resource officer to Forest Hills School District,” said Superintendent Larry Hook. “We always prioritize safety on our campuses to cultivate a secure environment for our students to learn and grow.”

SROs are an important part of school safety. In addition to providing immediate emergency support as needed, the SROs walk around the schools when they can, meeting with students and teachers to serve as a recognizable and trustworthy presence in the buildings.
