Community invited to October 12 dedication ceremony at AHS
Forest Hills School District invites the community to celebrate the completion of renovations at Anderson High School and the dedication of the Richard W. Wesp Performing Arts Wing. The ceremony is Saturday, October 12th at 10:00 a.m at Anderson’s Titus Auditorium, located at 7560 Forest Road.
Anderson High School will formally dedicate its renovated performing arts wing as the Richard W. Wesp Performing Arts Wing. Wesp directed the choirs of Anderson High School for 57 years beginning in 1954 until his retirement in 2011. As the district’s chair for fine arts, he elevated the reputation of district’s music programs. His choirs received many statewide accolades and his dedication to choral music earned him the 2005 Distinguished Service Award from the Ohio Choral Directors Association.
"Mr. Wesp was an extremely talented man who empowered his students to be their best,” said Anderson High School Band Director Toby Biederman. “Though he passed away in 2012, he made a lasting impact on thousands of students, fellow teachers, and community members. We will be honored to continue music education in the Richard W. Wesp Performing Arts Wing.”
Anderson High School students are benefiting from recent renovations that include elevated learning environments, state-of-the-art technology, enhanced security, improved handicap accessibility and air conditioning. In addition to the renovations, Forest Hills fulfilled a promise to the community to relocate approximately 80 buses off Anderson’s campus. This move has improved the safety of students, parents, staff and visitors.
In 2014, Forest Hills taxpayers approved a bond issue that made it possible to renovate eight schools and build one new school. With the completion of Anderson High School, the largest construction project in the district’s history has come to an end.
“Anderson High School students, and students district-wide, are learning in specialized environments that foster achievement and growth,” said Superintendent Scot Prebles. “This would not have been possible without the generosity of our supportive and vibrant community, and this transformation is something of which we can all be proud.”
Student-led building tours will be available following the ceremony.
