Anderson Science Department Earns Top Recognition for Excellence in STEM
At Anderson High School, science teachers inspire a love of learning and curiosity, helping students make a meaningful difference in their school and their community. The Ohio Academy of Science announced this month it is awarding Anderson High School with The Governor's Thomas Edison Awards for Excellence in STEM Education and Student Research. The Academy recognized a very talented and dedicated group of teachers with this accolade that acknowledges efforts of encouraging scientific and technological exploration outside of the classroom from the 2023-2024 academic year.
The criteria that teachers must meet to earn the award include conducting a local science fair with at least 12 students and having at least two participate in the District Science Day. If no local science fair is conducted, then teachers must have at least six students participate in the District Science Day. The other requirement is to have students participate in at least one other youth science opportunity outside of school.
As a result of this esteemed recognition, Anderson High School and its science department will receive a Governor’s Award certificate. Additionally, the teachers who make up the Anderson science department receive a membership to The Ohio Academy of Science. Only 697 teachers in the state earned this honor, selected from 53 schools.
The Ohio Academy of Science initiated this educational partnership program in cooperation with The Office of Technology Investments, The Ohio Department of Development to recognize schools and teachers for excellence in STEM education and scientific student research.
