All Nine FHSD Schools Recognized for PBIS Excellence

Oct 10, 2023

The Ohio Department of Education and Ohio PBIS Network recently recognized all FHSD schools individually for the “quality and fidelity of PBIS implementation.” This is a significant achievement and a strong testament to Forest Hills School District’s commitment to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.

PBIS is a preventative and systematic approach that emphasizes the high-quality implementation of evidence-based practices, use of data-based decision-making and organization of supports to help all students experience success. PBIS has been shown to improve student achievement, student behavior and school climate.

Five schools improved in their recognition from last year. Ayer, Mercer, Nagel, Sherwood and Summit all achieved higher ratings on the 2023 Ohio PBIS Showcase.

Ayer, Maddux, Summit, Turpin and Wilson all achieved a gold-level rating. Mercer and Nagel received a silver rating. Anderson and Sherwood were recognized with a bronze rating.

Each of these designations indicates a high-level of achievement in relation to the PBIS framework. FHSD is proud of the work each individual school is doing to empower students to display appropriate behaviors so they can be contributing, successful members of their communities.

You can learn more about PBIS work and other wellness topics on the Wellness section of the FHSD website. Information about PBIS can be found under the School-Based Supports tab.

PBIS directly dismantles barriers and creates a consistent, safe and positive school climate. PBIS is a framework that provides support to students, families and educators. The framework helps students by focusing on their strengths and building on their confidence to succeed. PBIS is a research-based system that utilizes a positive approach to discipline, which leads to a reduction in office referrals, in-school suspensions and out-of-school suspensions that decrease instructional time for students.
